MISSIONS STATEMENT
The primary goal and mission of the Wellfleet Police Department is to serve and protect the citizens of the community. To this end the chief will incorporate modern state of the art technical and management techniques.
Specific goals of the department will include development of programs to deal with area traffic concerns. The most vexing problem, the danger to travelers Route 6 presents, will be addressed by added traffic enforcement and increasing the awareness of the problem to area residents through education.
Due to the special location of Wellfleet the department shall pursue a policy of cooperation and support with other governmental agencies and units. The goal will be not only to see to it that day to day public safety concerns are met but to ensure that sufficient planning and preparation have taken place to adequately deal with potentially negative weather, environmental, and people related problems.
Another goal will be the encouraging of department members to become involved with local youth projects. This is in recognition of the fact that our future is defined by the effort we put into the raising and nurturing of our children.
The ecosystem that has created the beauty of Wellfleet is a delicate one. It is the goal and intent of the department to act in whatever lawful and statutorily correct manner is appropriate to assist those agencies tasked with preserving and protecting the area's unique character and flavor.
The Town's business community is likewise in a fragile environment. To the extent good sense and community service allows the department shall be dedicated to the health and well being of the Town's business structure. This goal will be accomplished by increasing the sensitivity of the department's members to the needs of the area's inhabitants and visitors. Officers and department employees will also be professional in their dealings with both business people and the public.
Lastly it would be appropriate to state that the Town's financial concerns must be recognized and addressed. It is the stated goal of the department to remain within the budget allotted for the operation of the agency as determined by the Board of Selectmen, and that the Police Chief's responsibility is to ensure that the citizens of the Town receive the maximum services for the funds allocated.
